If I heard correctly, we'd like our population to be mainly "the smart kids". Many gifted students are also labelled ADHD and/or LD. Giftedness rarely comes alone! :)We see many kids every day who are very smart and capable but they need special attention, learning support, and the use of diverse and creative teaching methods. We need to enhance our student support to allow these kids to succeed. They belong here but need help. We already do a lot witht hhe kids but we could establish gifted programs (on the same base as student support), where thinking and reasoning could be pushed a little further(IB does a great job for this!)

Lucille Oberman is a "gem" in Lower school. SHe is a volunteer and helps direct some enrichment for children who are two grade levels above in math and/or reading. We are lucky to have her and maybe should consider a permanent person in this area. Differentiated classrooms are different then in public school. I have more students who need enrichment- yet social/emotional maturity is on grade level. I have less students who need remediation and those that do, only need help temporarily.
